Seeing Two Musicals In One Month!

Since I was a kid, I’ve loved musical theatre. I love listening to the music, performing on stage and going to watch musicals whenever I get a chance. With being in college, it isn’t always easy to go out and see a musical, but I got to two musicals in November. I was able to see both Wicked and Waitress while they were on tour in San Diego and seeing two musicals in one month was absolutely amazing.

Seeing Two Musicals In One Month

When I was little, I had trouble sleeping at night. To help me fall asleep, I would out in headphones and fall asleep to the Wicked soundtrack. Slowly, but surely, I learned every single word of the musical without even seeing it in person. Soon enough, Wicked came on tour to San Francisco and I begged and begged to go. I remember sitting on the edge of my seat when I finally got to go see it, mouthing every single word as it went along.

When I heard that Wicked was coming on tour to San Diego, I knew I had to go. I bought tickets the morning it went on sale and counted down the days to the show. Wicked was just as magical the second time around and I was still astounded by the whole thing. Even my boyfriend, who isn’t a musical nerd like me, thought the show was amazing. He loved the twist between Wicked and the Wizard of Oz.

After seeing Wicked, I wanted to see another musical as soon as possible. I saw that Waitress was coming to San Diego a few weeks after and I had heard so many good things about the show so I really wanted to go. My little from my sorority, Sophia, had seen the show in New York earlier this year and wanted to see it again so we bought tickets to go.

I meant to listen to the soundtrack before we went, but I’m kind of glad I didn’t because I got to experience the entire thing for the first time. The storyline was incredibly moving and the ending made me so happy. I’m not just a musical theatre nerd, but also a theatre tech nerd. The moving parts of the stage were amazing and I loved that the band was on stage the entire show. I’m so glad that I decided to go see Waitress and I’m definitely going to listen to the soundtrack all the time now.

Seeing two musicals in one month was awesome and I’m so grateful that I was able to see Wicked and Waitress. I’ll most certainly be going to more in the next year because San Diego has an amazing upcoming season. The musicals at the top of my list to see are Dear Evan Hansen, Book of Mormon and Aladdin.
